Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Today I found myself with a lot more time on my hands than I’m used to. I prefer not to go through the details right now, but the circumstances leave me wondering how I will fill my upcoming days. Thankfully, National Blog Posting Month starts November 1. There is my cue. So, plan on hearing much more from me in the coming days. I’m excited to get back to my passions– connecting people to causes, empowering people with social media and digital communications, and restoring my sense of wonder through creative activity.  Will you join me in this adventure?  Read More →

Reflections on the Passing of Eunice Kennedy Shriver

On the eve of Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s death, I feel it is important to note how significant her passing truly is. She taught the world to look at people with intellectual disabilities first for their strengths and not with pity, but with pride. We all walk in a different world because of her. My greatest hope is that her attitudes and ambitions for the lives of people with Intellectual disabilities will carry on in each one of us. By expecting of the world what she demanded everyday, we can continue to bring hope to people like my sister, Andrea, that one day they will, without question or a second thought, stand next to each of us and have a life like ours. www.eunicekennedyshriver.org Profile of Eunice Kennedy Shriver  Read More →

Lord Bless This Mess.

I’ve been struggling with getting up to speed with customizing wordpress through child-themes. And while many who read this might groan at those words for one reason or another, we’ll justsay that I’m working on fixing the look of my blog and I hope you are reading this from an RSS reader at the moment. I left school early in this decade with a firm idea of how to edit and design web pages, but the web moves at the speed of light. I am now catching up on my PHP and thematic and widget areas. Hang in there with me. It’s a scary, but necessary ride. I hope you can look past the page for a week or so as I make it my own. Thanks.  Read More →

The importance of nonprofits leveraging video online

Luis Sandoval and Jennifer Navarrette run a great podcast, Tech-in-Twenty, which recently discussed the importance of using video in social media for both businesses and nonprofits. I am so grateful they touched on the ways nonprofits can get information out there in a captivating way. I called into the program because all too often I see us tech types overlook the basics steps to entry for this technique. Nonprofits are struggling to keep their donations stretched over operating costs. Many do not see a way to get video cameras or web enabled phones with video cameras built-in. They also don’t see the level of time commitment involved and assume it takes forever to edit these videos. Here’s a few key highlights to remember if you are a nonprofit trying to get the message out: Leverage the power of YouTube. Many people connect their youtube accounts to other social media accounts. It helps your video spread... Read More →
