Luis Sandoval and Jennifer Navarrette run a great podcast, Tech-in-Twenty, which recently discussed the importance of using video in social media for both businesses and nonprofits. I am so grateful they touched on the ways nonprofits can get information out there in a captivating way.
I called into the program because all too often I see us tech types overlook the basics steps to entry for this technique. Nonprofits are struggling to keep their donations stretched over operating costs. Many do not see a way to get video cameras or web enabled phones with video cameras built-in. They also don’t see the level of time commitment involved and assume it takes forever to edit these videos.
Here’s a few key highlights to remember if you are a nonprofit trying to get the message out:
- Leverage the power of YouTube. Many people connect their youtube accounts to other social media accounts. It helps your video spread out further.
- If you are a charitable organization, Flip video cameras will give you a free camera through their spotlight program: Flip Video Spotlight program
- Ask for help. Reach out to your local community through social media. Figure out what you can do on your own, and fill in the blanks with the your community. I personally love to share my knowledge for free if it helps a cause.
There is more, and I think I’ll be talking about this more on Tech in Twenty and around San Antonio. For now, Here’s the podcast with my suggestions:
